Head of Engineering

The Head of Engineering is required to primarily lead the engineering development and set the team’s strategy.

Position Summary

A managerial role, the Head of Engineering should be highly skilled in leadership. Heads of Engineering should be able to demonstrate highly developed management skills, and have broad knowledge of software development, IT, and the product development lifecycle.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Managing department budgets and resources
  • Building and managing relationships with clients, vendors, and business units
  • Project scoping, planning, and management
  • Talent recruitment and mentoring

Secondary responsibilities may include:

  • Developing proof of concept work

  • Deep and rich understanding of the product domain and expertise area, especially as it relates to the company goals
  • Contribute in technical discussions to ensure decisions being made adhere to the established vision
  • Constantly learn new engineering practices and tools
  • Engage with wider technical communities related to the expertise area

Capabilities

Leadership:

  • Proficient in managing large engineering teams
  • Deep understanding of software development lifecycles
  • Ability to set and maintain departmental budgets
  • Understanding of running performance reviews across a department

Development:

  • Some programming skills required as needed
